Corvair sightings

Post by Scott H »

Have you spotted a Corvair while out and about?
Tell us about it, where was it, post a picture, is it for sale, etc?

There is a 1961 blue 4 door corvair in Highwood Illinois at the towns small mechanical shop, I have went and looked at it a few times. It is a 3 speed and runs well could use new gas filters for it has been sitting. It started right up after sitting for months. There is rust in the usual places but no holes. all the glass is good the front bench seat is ripped. Needs gauges to be hooked up (needs new spedo cable whirling noise coming from it) Need new ignition switch you turn it off but it stays running, there is a kill switch in the engine bay (Micky mouse, house light switch) It belongs to a little old widowed lady it was her husband's she wants 2500$ but it has been sitting there for a year and a half maybe so In sure the shop that is keeping it for her will be happy to get rid of it it has a clear title, the old lady lives in Virginia in the winter so she will over night mail it., radio works, fan and blowers do not, light and turn signals work too that's about the gist of it

My neighbor has a 65-67 dark blue convertible with a black top and black rear panel. There's also a blue '62 convertible with a white top. Not sure if it's a spyder or not.

Saw this '64 Spyder tonight. Chased him down and chatted a bit. Nice guy. Says it's his daily driver and that he visits the forum here from time to time. Image

It was wrecked. Said a girl hit him last April. It's his daily so he hasn't fixed it yet.

I see Corvairs in the wild all the time and I never get a chance to take a pic unless the situation is right.

I found this '62 Monza hanging out in Pendleton, Oregon. Don't know it's story, but it had been sitting for a while. Had a Powerglide and while it had a 110 emblem on the decklid, I'm not 100% sure what it had in it. Nobody was around to ask questions.

I stopped at the Missouri Welcome Center on westbound I-44 right before Joplin and they had this up on a nice display about how the Missouri State Patrol dealt with traffic safety over the years.
