Corvair Underground - Fan Belt Tensioner

Post by johnbeighle »

Hi Covair Fans,

I have a 1966 Corsa convertible.

I purchased an adjustable Fan Belt tensioner that the Corvair Underground in OR had manufactured for a 10-15 years. The Corvair Underground is now closed, and my Tensioner mechanism with the Allen head adjustment screw does not seem to be adjusting the tension anymore.

Question - Does anyone on this Forum have one of these adjustable tensioners that they are willing to sell?

Secondly, if someone owns one of these, can they tell me which direction the set score moves to tighten the belt? (mine is broken, so it does not seem to tighten it in either direction.

Thirdly, my car still wants to throw my correctly sized belt even with the fan belt tension adjusted correctly. Does anyone have any advice on this continued problem?

I appreciate your effort in answering my questions. If you would like to get a hold of me directly with the opportunity to buy one please contact me at jkbeighle@hotmail.com

Thanks, John

Here is a topic from the now defunct "Other Forum" that may be of some help.

John, when and under what conditions does it throw the belt? Where are you located?

If you send me your tensioner I will upgrade it with new larger bushings and an updated spring the and helper spring. Depending on what needs to be replaced price could be $75-$80 plus shopping.

And yes, I did purchase the rights from Lon Wall before he passed.
