The broken block could be welded but probably not worth it unless you have an RR block.

Not Corvair, but an amazing repair of a really broken rare cast iron block. Waiting for part 2.

Engine shrouds - what paint?
I'm thinking rustoleum rusty metal primer followed by rustoleum satin black enamel.
The shrouds that envelope the cylinders will be done in a high temp ceramic type.
I can't afford powder coat.
Opinions?

I only use black engine paint which claims to be heat, gas and oil resistant on shrouds. Black stove paint on the internal baffles snapped to the cylinders.

I did the big shroud in high temp Krylon black (on the bench), along with the head covers, still on the car. Hope it lasts a while. Easy touch up either way.
