Power enrichment needle. Carburetor

Post by Corsa bill »

Hi can anyone tell me about the power enrichment needles on my carburetors. It seems that they were only in my primary carburetors. Do I need them at all? And if so do I need them in my secondary carbs.

If the carburetors are drilled for them then you have to have them. The secondary carburetors shouldn't be drilled for the fuel.

 You may find the attached DELCO ROCHESTER - Models H, HV Carburetor Service Manual to be informative. About half of this manual is dedicated to operational theory of the Rochester H and HV carburetor subsystems. The power enrichment circuits are described on page 6. The manual does a pretty good job of describing design differences in the carburetors over the various model years.

Another good information source...

Bob Helt's Rochester book is worth having. I recall the power enrichment valve was only on the primaries starting in 65. It compensated for a part throttle lean condition. The secondaries are relatively simple, BUT they did change in 66, 67, 68.
