Padded dash removal

Post by albjerryg »

My dash pad is cracked in 3 or 4 places. Any advice on how to remove the padded dash for replacement? Thanks Jerry

I had to put it on hold for a couple of week the wife had knee replacement surgery and I had to tend to her. I will enclose a couple shots of the corvair.. Thanks Jerry

Late model (65 and later) padded dash is removed by removing 6 nuts from under the dash and associated trim that is in the way. Removal of instrument cluster, glovebox, and radio components facilitate access to the nuts. After removal you can try to repair and recover or Clark’s Corvair Parts sells a replacement covered foam piece ( you must reuse the steel part or your pad assembly. No need to remove windshield. Article you saw likely for a pre 65 car

Maybe in an assembly manual. Lay under the dash with a flashlight you will find them. They are stamped (pal) nuts

Here is a photo of one side of a 1965 -1966 style Dash Pad.
There are three studs on each side (Mirror image).
It has been reported that the pad can be removed with the windshield intact but it can be a tight fit.
I hope this helps you figure out where to look for the nuts under the dash.
