spreadsheet is going well

I now know of

20 mk1 / em of which 14 are taxed for use on road

18 mk2 / lm of which 5 are taxed for use on the road

I'm now starting to try and get details of the data tags to expand the spreadsheet data

Were the Corvairs imported to the UK fitted with a RHD configuration?

never.

I have only found one corvair that's still registered in the UK that was imported in as a new car (and that is a LHD), all others are much later, of all the EM's i have, only 4 where registered pre 2000 (6 for LM's), so most of the cars over here are secondhand cars brought from the USA

of all EM's & LM's only three are CKD cars, and of them only two where sold new to country's that where RHD (1 x UK (came from Antwerp, so a plant that would have been making LHD cars for the Europe market), 1 x SA (built in port elizibeth). I guess GM just felt it wasn't worth the hassle/expense for such a limited financial return.

also, I suppose that in the 1960's the roads were so much quieter, having a LHD car wasn't so much of a hassle that it is now, plus there was the 'exotic' feel of having a LHD car

its strange though, as corvairs do lend themselves to been sold/made in either LH or RH configuration as the dash is 'nearly' the same, and the bulkhead couldn't have taken much to alter for the brake master, and I doubt that the steering box would have been that hard to alter. due to their size they where certainly a manageable 'European' sized car, unlike a lot of the monsters that where sold in the USA!!

I've seen some proper 'lash ups' of conversions over the years, a mate of mine had a factory converted Plymouth Duster that looked as if it had been converted by a blacksmith! :rolling:

i have seen (on here) a LM corvair that was converted to right hand drive using a rack and pinion, but i dont think it was ever finished

no, but I'm happy to email it to anyone who wants a copy

I'm just cautious about posting it up as it has chassis numbers on it, and coming from a background of mini cooper s's, the last thing you ever want is a list of registration numbers and chassis numbers - I'm sure that in the uk people are stealing and ringing corvairs though.....
