Title issues

Unread post by toytron » Thu Aug 10, 2017 12:58 pm

Has anyone here dealt with a title for a car that they wanted to license in illinois but the person had already signed it as the purchaser but never registered it?

You say "registered" but I think you mean they never transferred the title. Can't that person complete the title transferred as they should have and then immediately transfer it to you?

Well it is a little more complicated than that. The let's call him the owner sold the car to person B who sold it to person C after he signed the title. Owner C then sold it to person D who took the parts he needed off of it but C didn't give D the title. D then sold it to me and I was going to part it out but found that it was in better condition than the car I had so I contacted D who contacted C and C sent me the title. When I received it the paperwork goes back 8 years since the A B transaction.

If person C can complete the title transfer (assuming there is no time limit on that in your state) then ask him do so and then immediately sign the title over to you.

Do what you can to find that person. If you can't locate him then you will likely have to do some type of bonded title.
