Does anyone know this person?
I have noticed on eBay that someone named joan (Starr) Cooke sells an awful lot of corvair stuff. Has anyone bought anything from them?

Hello, Yes I have bought stuff from him, always a clean deal. Knows tons about Corvair engines as he modifies them for sand buggies, knows little about the cars.

Yes my 140 has a bunch of components from him. I am lucky because he is about 75 miles away so I usually go to his shop which is at his house.

Ask Phil Dally or Dave Motohead about their dealings with him. He is not very well liked over on the other message board. Lets just say that he embellishes a lot. Scott V's link to the other board shows it.

gnrand - Did you get that end cover with the with the hi-volume oil pump that was MISSING the oil pressure regulator spring from Cooke? I recall that caused you a lot of problems.
Re: Does anyone know this person?
Yep and he accepted responsibility for the mistake. He offered all my money back which I would not accept. Then he offered me parts that I need for another engine. I would not hesitate to do business with him again.

Re: Does anyone know this person?
I bought some 140 heads from Starr Cooke, I drove to his house/shop to pick them up today. 2 hours away from me but worth the trip. What a treasure he is! His helpfulness, knowledge and stories were great, 2-1/2 hours flew by. He's well over 70, and enthusiastically into everything: Corvair parts & engines (he has buggies, not Corvairs), hunting, travel, flying helicopters, and more. He's a retired home builder, says he built thousands of houses in the San Diego area, including his beautiful custom house. His wife Joan races her own Corvair-powered buggy!

I also have had positive dealings with him. He rebuilt my turbo for my new engine and then rebuilt it again . (after my new motor spit some valve guide pieces up into it ).
I drove down to his house in the morning and he rebuilt my turbo while me and my wife had breakfast! Was ready by noon. I pretty much echo what was described above.
