Ignition switch

Post by Jeromie78 »

When i bought my car it came with four keys but only 1 of them worked and it was for the trunk. I ordered a new ignition switch and door locks from Clarks. I can't seem to figure out how to get the old one out to put the new one in. I can still start it without any keys but i would like to fix that issue.
Any help would be great.

I quoted your earlier post from last year to identify your Corvair model year and your location.

Unfortunately, the "key factor" in removing the old ignition tumbler with a paper clip and key combination would require the correct key in the first place! Since you don't have the correct key for your lock, I don't believe that you will be able to remove the lock tumbler assembly without the assistance of a professional locksmith who can probably pick the lock for you to get it open). Once the cylinder has been removed, the new cylinder can be installed. A locksmith can also reset the lock to match the trunk key, so that the same key will fit both.

I looked to see if there were any Corvair clubs in your area (CORSA -- Corvair Society of America). These owner's groups can be helpful in learning to maintain your Corvair. They are family-friendly, and often offer training sessions, social gatherings such as picnics and scenic drives, car shows, competition events, etc. There are two clubs in Missouri and one in Arkansas, but unfortunately each is about 200 miles from Branson!
