Need to replace the blower motors in 2 of my rides. Sourced from 2 different places and did some bench testing. Both motors were run no load for 2 minutes prior to testing. Tach was a hand held contact type, so amps. went up, but no blower wheel was installed.
Enjoy!

Re: Siemans Heater Blower Motor
Is there supposed to be a foam seal between the motor and the housing or just bolt the fan motor directly to it??
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Siemans Heater Blower Motor
Not that I recall. There is a gasket between the steel blower housing (fan goes on) and the heater box (white metal), but you probably won't be taking that apart.
Note --- I worked on a car with a new heater fan that would not work. The Clark's motor to housing screws were BLACK ANODIZED and anodizing is an INSULATOR - so no ground! I replaced the screws with hardware store sheet metal screws and the motor worked!!
You need a good ground to make the fan motor work. In fact I always add a 12 ga. ground wire from the motor flange screw to the body stud that holds the heater assembly up in the car. The heater box ground is not so good as the conductive path has to go through a number of screwed together parts that corrode with age. Sometimes a slow fan motor is just a lousy ground.
Re: Siemans Heater Blower Motor
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback!! I'll get the ground wire added.

Re: Siemans Heater Blower Motor
It does need to seal to work the best. There was caulk in there from the factory. No rubber gasket, though.
Just a slight smear of something, something with a high temperature rating, but note, many silicone seal (RTV) types have a smell, so do NOT use those! I learned that years ago...
The smell will go away, eventually.

The air leakage is minor, but you can use 3M strip caulk. It has been around forever since it works well and it is NOT permanent so things can come apart. Sold online and at many auto parts stores.
Also great to plug body holes where the grommets fail. Holds paper to door behind panel, etc.
Re: Siemans Heater Blower Motor
What manual would I find the assembly instructions for reinstalling the heater system? I took it out a couple of years ago and would like to follow directions on what goes in first.
I mean ALL of it came out.
Thanks!!

Not a great place for a response, better to start a new post with question. However ----- Covair vendors sell the factory assembly manual for each model year. Keep in mind you need some skills and familiarity with the Corvair as the assembly manual directions are for those trained on the assembly line. Also instructions are drawings - good, but not like a video.
Also, sometimes during the 1965 model run Chevy "fixed" a heater design goof!! So early heaters fit up into hole in the air intake plenum and late 65 heaters DO NOT.

I'm not sure when the "fix the heater box problem" happen but I have a 1st week of July '65 LOS built coupe that still has the "problem" heater box. I wouldn't think that there was too much '65 production left at that point? It does appear that they had relocated the voltage regulator by this time. The car has an internal regulated alternator and '66 style A/C condenser but you can see from the holes that it had been moved.

Interesting. I should have said "rumor mill has it --- " as I've been told the newer style heater box was installed in some 65 models. I've never seen one.RexJohnson wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 3:31 pm I'm not sure when the "fix the heater box problem" happen but I have a 1st week of July '65 LOS built coupe that still has the "problem" heater box. Fisher Body would have had to change the bodies (no hole in air intake plenum) so perhaps they waited until the 65 to 66 change over on the assembly line to use the newer style heater box.
Anybody ever see a 65 model year body with the 66 model year style heater??
Re: Siemans Heater Blower Motor
I'm reusing the heater that came out. It has the covered vent opening as described. I have the manuals on CD but my new laptop does not have any way to accept a CD...

CD players with USB cords are still a real item. I have them, good when the built in CD/DVD unit stops working in my laptop too.

Yup --- CD/DVD with USB for computer is easy to find. $14 - $40. Like you Frank, my built in CD/DVD players on my computers have quit.Frank DuVal wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 9:27 pm CD players with USB cords are still a real item. Anybody remember Floopy disk drives

Oh how times have changed. Now companies have people that just move media from one old storage type to the newest. There is the cloud, but what could possibly go wrong with that!

Re: Siemans Heater Blower Motor
I've always had used blowers on hand but that time has come to an end.
I bought a PM102 at O'Reillys yesterday for about $35. There was only one option available. It's not a Siemans unless it's a rebox. Is there a reason I should be looking for a Siemans in the future?
O'Reilly showed nothing available for a 65 Corvair but the PM102 for a 72 Nova.

Jim - Fact is most of the "60's" car parts are not in much demand anymore. A lot of items are made by ONE company and sold under different brands. There are smaller manufactures that will bid on orders to reproduce obsolete parts in smaller numbers, but as we all know reproduction parts are hit and miss. A good example is Clark's trying to get the unique Corvair mechanical fuel pump manufactured!!!jimbrandberg wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 7:13 am I've always had used blowers on hand but that time has come to an end.

I cannot predict the future (only a fool claims to do that), but I would buy a few spares while they are still available.

Last use of a PM102 appears to be the 1992 Camaro with out AC.
