matching numbers?

Post by Choptop »

real quick question... I have a 63 Convert with the original engine in it... On Corvairs do the engine numbers match the chassis? Is there such a thing a "matching numbers" in the Corvair world?

Engine numbers generally indicated the HP and the tranny type and the manufacturing month and week but not year. Since some codes were reused between years you cannot always be 100% sure. It wasn't untill late 68-69 that part of the VIN number was actually stamped onto the engine cases.

In the Corvair world a "numbers matching car" is just a car where all of the date codes found throughout the vehicle are generally all in agreement.
