Factory Oshawa Thumbprints

Post by Volktales »

Here is something a bit interesting. Been cleaning up the engine bay in my largely original '65 Monza built in Oshawa Ontario. Have a look at the pictures...

If you look at the rather sloppy factory seam sealer in the center of the picture, you will see a curious depression.

That is most definitely a thumbprint, pushed into the seam sealer before it set up. Bored line worker "marking" his work???

For fun I looked at Goldie, my other '65 Oshawa built Monza. And there it was, another thumbprint in the same location! So the question is, do any of you owners of Canadian produced cars also have one of these personal "signatures" on your car??? Interesting how many might still be out there today...

Hard to guess, but maybe just pushing the seam sealer around for a better fit.

"Kilroy was here". Been known to do similar stuff on things I've worked on.

Aftermarket. I've seen that in the old JC Whitney catalog. :rolling:

My Evening Orchid Oshawa 65 Corsa appears to have escaped The Bandit’s Mark.

Perhaps that pretty intact print will reveal the identity!

That is the best engine compartment seam sealer application I've ever seen on a Corvair!!! I wonder if someone re-did it during a restoration.

Seems pretty clean, yes, but from what I do know of the history of the car, I believe the engine compartment is unrestored… The exterior has been resprayed.

That Evening Orchid '65 is NICE! Before I was actively looking for a Corvair, a '65 Evening Orchid project car was for sale relatively close to me, and cheap too. Had I known what I know now, I should have saved it. Hope someone else did!
