LM dash pad removal

Post by skihor »

Trying to push through the interior project and I don't have the book yet. How is the dash pad attached ? Secondly how do you remove it ? The upholstery shop is ready for it.
Thanks,

Various speed nuts from underneath the steel dash panel.

Yes, there are studs on the pad frame that go through the steel dash. Depending on year, you may have to work a bit to get it past the windshield to get the pad out. I'm pretty sure you'll need to remove the gauge cluster and glove box to get at the nuts.

When you get it out you may want to check with the upholstery guy and see if he can put some different fasteners on there so that you can snap it in like a modern interior. They are a real bear sometimes. If not put it on before the gauges or anything else. I think I might just weld my holes up and paint it. The pad does not look very effective anyway.

Pulling the guage cluster, glove box and radio allows for a lot more room to get the speed nuts off.
