Shifts into reverse really hard

Post by indianalakewood1961 »

My 61 Lakewood shifts really hard when you put it into reverse, not hardly at all when you put it into drive. Anyone know why it would jerk so much into reverse? I have been fighting an idle problem but even when I do get it to idle down it still pauses then jerks. Any help would be much appreciated..

Maybe the bands on the transmission are slipping. The band slips a bit and the revs come up, it catches and now it shifts rough because it is now "shifting" at a higher rpm now. I'm assuming you have a powerglide. Its good you have the idle down that helps as you probably know. I have a similar issue with my car, except its in drive.
