Overheating Issues
I just bought a 61 2 door, and on the drive home you can tell that she was getting pretty hot. Im taking the top fan shield of because i want to repaint it and clean everything up. I noticed that the fan had been sucking in insulation from the strip on the firewall. Is there any other things i should look at that would help stop the engine from getting so hot?

i would vote for mice, you need to check all around the cylinders to make sure they have not built nests in there

Pulling the top shroud will let you clean out the cylinder fins and the oil cooler fins too on the lower left corner. That's the most important thing to check. On the bottom of the engine make sure the air has a clean exit as well but almost always the blockage is under the top shroud due to mice nests, old mechanics rags, deck lid insulation, etc.

Re: Overheating Issues
Also: (1) make sure the engine to body gasket is present and in good shape all around. The purpose of that gasket is to keep the hot and cool air separate. Without it you are sucking heated air back into the cooling system. (2) Make sure the air doors are opening up when the engine warms up.
