Distributor dilema

Post by Twiprod007 »

Ok here goes.. I have a 1965 Corvair Corsa with a molested engine. Follow along now. 180 turbo block converted by the previous owner to 140 heads. I believe the distributor is original to the180 and does not have a vacuum advance. I have a noise which sounds like an engine knock but I am told it is a detonation noise. what distributor should I be running in this engine? I was told a 1110329. Is this correct? Thanks in advance.

The 1110329 is correct for '65-'66 180 turbo. The pressure retard (number stamped on arm) should be 250 but you should check that also as some installed the 150hp retard 224. There is also an aftermarket advance/retard that can be used.

ps: The 140 heads are a power adder with those big valves! :tu: BUT they are also higher compression than 180 heads so timing will be important to check.

Are you running a turbo with the 140 heads or a normally aspirated 4 carb setup?

I'm confused :dontknow: :dontknow:

Is this a TURBO engine with 140 heads fed by the turbo, or is it a turbo engine converted to 140 heads and carburetors???

180HP Turbo distributor is 1110329. Pressure retard canister #250.

140HP carbureted engine distributor is 1110330 (66 emissions 140HP distributor is different). Vacuum advance #248.

Opps I see Spectre just beat me to it!
