Nut Insert Tool

Post by doug6423 »

Anyone have a nut insert tool for putting nut inserts where the belly pans bolt to they want to sell?

I know I can find one online or at the local auto parts store, but I like to move my tools along that I don't use that often.

Plus maybe I'll get some extra pointers..

Thanks!

I can't help you with a riv-nut tool but I will mention two things...

I had split lower shrouds on my '66 140; split front to rear so they could be trimmed tight to the headers. I used riv-nuts in the tabs that bridged the split. The 6-32 screws were always falling out. Every time I went to do something around the shrouds, a third of the screws were missing.

As for the tunnel, when I'm dealing with stripped-out tunnel threads, I place a J-bolt over the tunnel flange. J-bolts stay in place well and clamp onto the bolt shank when they're torqued. The screws never seem to fall out.

Marson M39314 RN-1 is the one to get for steel fasteners. I have 2 of them, because I was working in 2 areas 30 miles apart. The single one was always in the wrong location.

I believe I can let one go now, since I brought our Camaro home.

They are not inexpensive and mine are still looking new. I replace the Marson supplied riv nuts with better blind nuts. I will also sell off the original 2 sets of Marson riv nuts with the kit.

Send a PM and we can discuss.

I have used them numerous places on my Vairs and Camaro. Also on home repairs where needed. No failures yet. Just have to remember to use anti-seize when you install the bolt/screw into it. Any seized bolt/screw in the riv nut will result in it turning on the metal. Yep, then a drill out and/or cut-off.

A deal is made for my Marson 39314 Klic nut (riv-nut) tool. I use the Marson MLR series ribbed riv-nuts, as they hold better.

I bought the Doyle Riv-Nut setter thinking it would be handy and make it easier to pull the 1-4 & up riv-nuts. What a surprise when my brought it home and we opened up the package and found no mandrel for the 3/8-16 riv-nuts. I am lucky that I hadn't had a use for the larger riv-nuts lately.

I found that the 3/8-16 mandrel kit can be bought of Amazon.

Here is the Doyle. It is really lacking in the mandrels. The Marson has more mandrels that come with the tool kit.

Doyle Kit Mandrels with kit: - #10-24, 1/4-20, 5/16-18

Marson 39314 Kit Mandrels with kit: - #6-32, #8-32, #10-24, #10-32, 1/4-20, 5/16-18, 3/8-16
