Mystery wire wheels

Post by ace63corvair »

I purchased a 1963 Corvair Monza 900 this past summer. It is red with white convertible top. It is in very good shape and in need of a few repairs / updates.
It has a set of wire wheels and I would like to find 5th for the spare.
The problems is that they seem to be mystery wheels. Can't find them any where on the internet.
The caps has "Superior Continental X4 on it.
Looked them over front and back and only tags say "Made in Taiwan" ROC.
I am attaching some pictures in the hopes that someone knows where they came from and if you can still find them out there.

Thanks, I'm thinking about putting the spinners from Clarks on them. Just have to figure out the mounting.
Over 250 views and nobody seems to have an idea who made them or if there any out there.

I went to a local swap meet this morning. Looking for those wheels.
It was a fairly large outdoor/ indoor meet. Did not see anything even close to my wheels.

I also have a wire wheel quest. I have three of these, need a fourth one to complete the set! They came from a Corvair someone was parting out. Def Chevy, just not sure if they are Corvair.

I think I saw a wheel like that at the swap meet today.
Swap meet is in Canton, OH at the fairgrounds.
May be a bit to far from your location.

Think 112 recharges will enough?
I'm amazed no one has seen this wheel anywhere.

These look like 67 -69 Corvair Wire wheel covers. I assume these are covers not wheels correct? What diameter are they 13" or larger? GM had simulated wire wheel covers like these in at least 13 and 14" sizes (maybe 15" also). 13" ones are generally harder to find than the larger ones. Center caps are cross compatible regardless of diameter. These wheel covers are around and you see them from time to time. The 3 bar spinners are generally compatible with these wheels so if you have 4 you can get matching centers (3 bar) in repro. Finding the wheel covers or centers is just like finding any other non-reproduced part...search Ebay, forums etc.

yeah that on is a little rough for $250. Pristine or NOS I usually have seen between 100 and 150 each, but, prices on rare parts have been rising.

There has to be some of these wheels out there somewhere.
I'm wondering since they were 13" wheel if most have been scrapped out.

I bought a set of 14” ones on eBay. Just have to be patient and willing to take them apart to clean and paint them if they’re rough.

The plot thickens a little.
I'm pulling the wheels off to clean and polish for new tires.
Noticed on the inside of rim that they were made in Brazil.
Had the name Borlem NE stamped on them with the number 4180
Also had 29 - 06 over 86. Thinking that is mfg date.
