Idler Arm
Idler Arm
An alignment shop recommended I replace my idler arm on my 65 corsa and decided to mill the top off of the end that attaches to the linkage. I expected to find a roller bearing where the tapered pin rides. I found a rubber washer a thin steel plate and a slotted steel bushing that the tapered pin rids in. I put the tapered pin back in but could not feel any play in the pin. I was just curious as the idler arms are not rebuildable. Just an observation. Larry

Bad idler arms can cause squeaks and shimmy. The Clark Repros all have grease fittings.

Re: Idler Arm
If the idler arm is bad and the pitman arm bushing has not been recently serviced it may well be bad also. Either one being loose will accelerate wear on the other. Check it and replace it at the same time if needed.

Re: Idler Arm
Clark was out of the idler arms. my pitman arm bushing is in good shape. I found that an idler arm off a 66 corvette has a heavier casting. The distance between the pins is the same and the taper on the pin in the linkage is the same. I made minor modifications to the arm that bolts to the body and fit it to my car. Larry
