Wheel Cylinder Bolts
Does anyone here know what size/thread/grade bolts fasten the rear wheel cylinder on a 1964 Corvair. Going to take mine off this week and I understand it is just as easy to break them off with a chisel as trying to remove them with a wrench. Thank you in advance.

1/4x20 length is short like 3/8 or maybe 1/2” 3/8 head is best. Grade is not that relevant. These will often come loose with a squirt of pb blaster or similar and a couple taps on a 6 point box wrench

I probably shouldn't say this but I've never had any break off. They aren't super easy to get to but you have to install the new ones so you need the right tool anyway.

Re: Wheel Cylinder Bolts
I have only ever broken a couple in 30 years. I did round off a few back in the day before I started using a 6 point box wrench or socket on them:)joelsplace wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 10:54 pm I probably shouldn't say this but I've never had any break off. Mine came off without any problem. As Ted suggested I used the split brake line fitting wrench and they came right off. Thanks all.

Re: Wheel Cylinder Bolts
I actually suggested a 6 point box wrench not a flare wrench. Open flare wrench is an ok choice but a closed 6 pointer is even better as it can not stretch and get looser on the bolt.11555wally wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 5:46 am Mine came off without any problem.
