Engine running on engine stand

Post by Latitude42 »

Has anyone run their corvair engine on a regular strand, or does everyone build a cradle?

I built one of misc. steel shelving stored in the back yard.
Used a front engine mount, then put a starter on the bellhousing, using some old wheel lugs as spacers.
Have used the stand many times and after an engine rebuild, start the engine and do all adjustments before installing the engine into the car.

I've run them on a typical 4-caster stand but also just sitting on the garage floor. A few folks have built some really nice engine stands with gauge panels, fuel tanks, etc.

I built one out of 2x6’s and put casters on it so I could roll it around. I recently updated my turbo ignition and did a video of my first start in my driveway. You can view it here: http://www.cincotek.com/Corvair/66Vair_EDIS6.mp4

I bolted up an old diff housing to a regular engine stand. This provides the perfect mate for your built engine and bellhousing to bolt up to with starter. Place a battery on top of the diff case (perfect size to hold a battery :) and you’re off to the races!
