66 Corvair conv

I just replaced the cables to my electric top, there weren't any cables when i bought this car, when i try to move the top it looks like one the cables are slipping, i see there is a stop at one end of the cables, my question is does it matter what end goes into the motor, would it be the end with the stop, i don't want to mess up these new cables
