LM glovebox trim attachment

Post by nmunn »

Getting ready to reinstall my dash and I’m trying to source the 4 plastic attaching fasteners. These are the four plastic fasteners that go through 4 tabs on the corners of the glove box opening.

Clark’s said they don’t carry them - anyone know a source or what can be used as an alternative?

Thanks in advance.

Trying to picture what you're talking about. Do you mean the 4 rubber bumpers so the glove door doesn't vibrate in the surround?
Cheers!

If you're talking about the 4 tabs on the surround that fasten to the dash right next to the 4 rubber bumpers, I THINK I just used regular automotive big head Phillips fasteners available at any auto store in their "Help" section.
Cheers!

Thanks for the responses. Here is a picture. When I removed it there were 4 flat hard plastic fasteners. Now I’m unclear on where the rubber bumpers as well.

Thanks again for your responses.

This piece mounts to the steel dash with a thin metal bracket that runs across the top of it . The bracket is bolted to the dash and the flange on the top of this piece slips down over it. The piece is then secured to the dash with screws at the bottom. Short black screws with fairly large heads are used to mount the tabs.

I have never found a source for the original type screws which had heads a bit larger than any screw of similar shaft diameter that I have been able to find. Any screw that will fit the holes and have a fairly flat head should work. For best look with the black surround, paint the heads black. The correct screw is that same as the ones mounting the glovebox door hinge in the above photo.

Clarks does sell them and they are just a bit taller, but work fine. Also used for the weatherstrip rail above the side windows. I've used them on my 66 and they look correct.

Part # c2193xa (note NOT the same as c2193. See http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi

I kept the original screws but McMaster Carr has something very very close -- pn# 90930A194. $7.80 per 100.
