Exhaust log leaking

Post by 66corsaguy »

Hey all

I noticed my log, photo attached, is dripping water and exhaust. Do i have to replace the whole log or is there a repair that can be made ?

The water is just condensation. Not a serious problem on an air cooled car.

Suggest you remove the exhaust log, clean really well with wire brush. Then reassemble with fresh exhaust donuts.

I will take your suggestion of cleaning but i have fresh donuts installed but that’s not the area it’s leaking from. It seems to be coming from the other spot, the bumped out area - not the donut area. I also see smoke wafting out. Not sure what that spot is called but the ring area in front of the joint. In the photo there’s a drip on it.
I’m thinking it rusted out? Is that possible? Am i wrong?

Hard to see in the picture. If it is rusted through, weld up the damaged spot.

That area of the exhaust manifold is very thick. I doubt it is rusted through. Moisture here is not a big issue. Exhaust leaking here would point to the exhaust donut or issue at the very end of the exhaust pipe. A little smoke wafting out would likely be from some other source (a little oil, moisture evaporating, etc.) than an exhaust leak in this area. Any exhaust escaping would be more likely to pulse out with a little pressure behind it.
