I finally got my rebuilt Corsa turbo back in my '65 Corsa. It pretty much started right up when I first turned the key. I took it for a short drive - about 3 miles. The engine was running great - no weird knocks, pings or rattles. I parked it for about 10 minutes to pick up a few things at the grocery. However, when I went to restart it, it refused to start. Took about 3 or 4 minutes of cranking to get it to fire up. Once it was running it ran fine. Any suggestions on what I should look at to try and track this problem down ?

I had this problem when I had the yh in my car. The solution is when you go for a hot restart, hold the pedal to the floor and it will start right up every time. I believe when you shut the car off, the carb heat soaks which causes the gas inside it to expand and flood. Holding the pedal to the floor clears the flooded gas out. This is common with the yh.

A likely cause is lack of fuel. If the day was warm, when the car is parked, heat from the parking area is absorbed into the fuel lines running under the car. The fuel expands into a vapor. As the vapor hits the fuel pump, the pump cannot move gasoline. The carburetor when warm, will cause the fuel to evaporate. The solution is to install an electric fuel pump near the tank. This pushes fuel rather than using a vacuum from the mechanical pump.

Jerry, I have an electric fuel pump installed. The mechanical pump was removed by a previous owner. It gets power from the ignition run line when the engine is running and from the starter when the solenoid is engaged.
Nate, I'll give that a try and let you know. I had the carb rebuilt and tested by Clarks so I assume it is in good condition.

Talk to Steve Goodman at Rear Engine Specialists in Colorado. He has a lot of experience with the Turbo Corvairs.
Our club had a turbo car that had all kinds of fuel issues, even though everything was rebuilt on the engine. Steve recommenced a fuel regulator set to 2.5PSI. and that fixed everything. Ran great, started fine, fuel mileage improved.
The YH had a number of revisions and Steve knows how to set them up.
