62 Spyder Shield
62 Spyder Shield
I have this 62 Corvair that doesn't have the shields that cover the lower right & left sides of the engine which contain the thermostats, and kind of cover the exhaust manifolds.. The previous owner had them stored in the car. Does this affect the cooling system? I am in Texas, so warming up is not necessary, but with out them, will it cause the motor to run hotter? Or can they be left off, like the previous owner did? Thanks!

Re: 62 Spyder Shield
The engine will not run hotter with them removed. The direct air heater and defroster if equipped will work poorly but the engine will generally run cooler with these removed.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.
