Early Corvair rear fake deck vents

Post by AZScott »

A question for the forum. And I understand that this is a personal preference item and I have seen it done both ways. However I would like to know how this came out of the factory.
On the early Corvairs with back deck fake vents (two of them located between the rear deck lid, and rear window) were they painted partially with the body color of the car? I am assuming that they did but thought I would check with someone more familiar with this part.

I also heard that there may be a set of parts/kit available that would put LED lights in these vents and allow them to be a secondary brake light. Not sure I want to do this, however it seems like it could be an easy modification. I would like know any information and if such a kit exists.

They were normally painted body color except for the rear "grille" face and evident edge around it. There has Bennett discussion of led light etc as third brake lights and I am sure someone has done it, but, no kit that I have ever seen.

Thanks terribleted, Sort of what I assumed on the paint.
My 64 Spyder came to me without paint on them, so it must have been a prior owner modification.
Personally I think they look better painted , (accept for the grill).
