Is it normal for the a corvair to shake when letting off the clutch ?

Do you mean when letting the clutch out and accelerating from a stop?

I had the same problem on my van. Most of the time when starting off from a dead stop the clutch chattered. I found that the input shaft seal had blown and I had gear oil all over the clutch. I installed 2 seals, cleaned the flywheel & pressure plate and installed a new clutch disc. While I was in there. I also replaced the pilot bushing and throughout bearing. I now have a smooth clutch again.

Okay... Yeah I wasn't sure if it was normal or not... If I slowly let off the clutch it doesn't do it as much.. Thanks for the infodave t wrote:I had the same problem on my van. There is a good possibility that oil has contaminated the friction surface of the clutch disc if its chattering when letting the clutch out and accelerating from a stop. The other possibility is that someone installed some kind of performance disc (metallic, ceramic, kevlar, etc). These tend to do the same thing when they get hot.
