Oil Cooler Seals

Post by lalkie »

I replaced the oil cooler seals on my 65 corsa and they appear to be failing again. I used the vitron seals from Clarks. Has anyone tried the Fel Pro seals part number fpg 72655 or the Altrom atm021117151. Both are from NAPA?

Something isn't right. The viton seals should have no problems sealing and they should last a long time without leaking. Are you sure they didn't get pinched somehow and the sealing surfaces were good?

I have never had a Clark's oil cooler seal leak if properly installed. Something must be wrong with the installation. Did you use any sealant? If so clean it all off and use none. The only times I have seen viton oil cooler seals leak is if they are out of place, the cooler bolt is incorrect or loose, or someone has used sealant on the seals.

The seals from Clark's are really good. Must be some other problem.

I am still checking. I did not use sealer and did torque the bolts. It may be the cooler. I haven't taken it off to check. Thanks for the response. Larry
