Dash wire harness pin removal

Post by rnd5553 »

On a LM dash cluster, I am trying to remove the wire pin connector from the connector block. I did this years ago but forgot the process.

Can someone provide the trick to getting the pin connectors out of the wire harness connector block. Again, this would be the harness block that's part of the instrument cluster that plugs into the body harness.

Thanks.

use a tweezer like tool & push in the sides to unlock the wire pin.

There is a tool for it. It is a pin tool. Something like these. But a thin piece of spring steel ground down to a narrow tab works. I would have to find a picture of one to explain it better but I am at work right now.

i dont think the tools in the otc 4461 are going to be helpful for the twin lock stuff.

it needs something like the tweezer tool in the lisle 57750 kit. prob the silver tool or the blue one.

Yeah I was just giving an example. I would have had to look at the connector.

I use one of the tools from the Lyle kit - works well.

One thing to keep in mind with ALL these release tools is you have to push the wire into the connector opposite the contact side or the tangs on the connector can bind and the release tools will not be able to move the tangs in. It takes a little practice or you'll damage the connector.
