Hey all,
Is there any use for old engine cylinders that have already been bored .060 over or are they only good for decoration and/or the scrap bin?
Thanks,
Old engine cylinders

Re: Old engine cylinders
Corvair cylinders are noted for variations in the wall thickness - certainly not an issue for stock bore and they seem to tolerate 0.030" overbore. Going 0.060 over is pushing things and certainly not acceptable for a turbo engine. Also the deeper you cut the more issues you have with small voids and "grain".
If you want to go bigger than 0.030" over, then the Clark's Corvair aftermarket "full fin" cylinders are well regarded.

They make nice pencil holders... Other than that, when they're done they're done, in my experience.

I like the pencil holder idea. Gotta go buy some more pencils now.

Re: Old engine cylinders
I have been bored and over 60 for several years now.... they don't have much use for me anymore. I'm showing excessive wear and I'm scored and misshapen in the middle — no room for growth. They say it might be dangerous to give me sharp pencils... guess I'm a throw-away too!I am about to GET my set bored over to .060.....
