Carb trouble
Carb trouble
Hi I have a 140 corsa have been trying to balance carbs and in the process have found the primary carb on left of engine seems to have a air leak from a hole just under idle screw adjuster. I can seem to find what should if any thing go there any advice thanks

Re: Carb trouble
It should have a small plug like a freeze plug there. That hole is from the manufacturer to drill a passageway. I believe that you should be able to get a replacement and install it yourself.

Re: Carb trouble
They are called expansion plugs and you can get them from Mike's carb parts.

Thanks for the advice will have a look at mike's. Will probably cost more to ship to UK than cost of part but needs must

Re: Carb trouble
You might find them elsewhere they are just aluminum dish shaped plugs.

Re: Carb trouble
just under the idle screw is a hole for the idle vent. the vent is open @ idle & shuts above idle. theres a little tab on the throttle lever that opens & shuts it.
if you dont have the parts to make the vent work - & want to plug it.......plug it w/a lead ball or some epoxy or a small screw.
to make it work youll need these parts.
the arm............... http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C1569A
the screw............. http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C1843
the rubber plug/flap............... http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C1569

You might be right Scott. I might have read the message wrong. I was thinking the mixture screw
If it is the one Scott is talking about then Clark's has them.

Re: Carb trouble
Hi it is the one you have circled in diagram. I've probably not described part correctly my mechanical knowledge isn't the best. Come from electrical background.

Re: Carb trouble
Ok then it is the small aluminum expansion plug. It was put there by the manufacturer after they drilled out the passage for the idle mixture circuit. You are correct it will cost more for shipping than the cost of the plug itself.

Re: Carb trouble
Are you sure there isn't a plug in it. When I rebuilt mine I thought that was an open hole too but upon closer inspection it did have a dish type plug way down inside. MY BAD, GOT TO THINKING ABOUT THESE PLUGS & THEY ARE FROM AN OLD REPAIR KIT FOR MY 28 DODGE. Yes I save all those extra parts & the old ones.

Re: Carb trouble
Definitely no plug in you can see vapour leaking out. And when running if you cover hole engine picks up

Re: Carb trouble
Try a tackle shop, they might have a lead sinker to fit tight in the hole. Maybe some of this Gascacinch on the sinker too then just tap it in.
