Re: Blower Bearing and Housing Confusion...Growing
You should have seen me replace the rear wheel bearings. A 20 ton press wouldn't break the the old ones loose, I to go to a truck repair shop that had a 40 ton press to get them off. Put the new ones on with the inner race of the old bearings & an 8 lb. copper hammer & a pipe, lots of pounding but I got them on. Some of my friends call me a redneck. One way or another i'll get er done. I was to cheap to drive 20 miles to my buddy's shop & use his press.

I'm using heat just like in DavemotoHead's video, I pulled out two bearings easily following those steps. I'm building my 1st Corvair engine at 59 years old, so there! Eight is pretty darn young to have done a motor Dave and cool. I'm not throwing in the wrenches because of all of you helping me!

The cover does not have to be particularly hot. The real key is freezing the bearing. I put the cover in a 300 degree oven for a bit and freeze the bearing for a couple hours or more.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.
