Nice!!!! I plan on picking up my 65 Corsa Convert this week as well! I am going to try some body mods on the Corsa coupe first and carry them over if they work out the way I plan.

Re: Guess what I found?
Good cars are still hidden out there. I have a line on a 65 Corsa with a 396 mid-engine installed. It's been parked way out in the desert for many years in a contractor storage lot.
I'm just patiently waiting for the owner to tell me when I can go see it with him. $300 is the asking price and it doesn't need to have many good parts on it to be worth that.

Re: Guess what I found?
I just got a reply today from the owner of the mystery car I'm chasing.
6 am Saturday morning is the time to go take a look at his mid-engine 396 project that I mentioned above. I hope it's not a wasted trip but at least it's only a 1/2 hour drive.
I'll take pics either way and hopefully have good news by the end of the holiday weekend.

Re: Guess what I found?
I wasn't as smart as you so I bought my "junk" find. The guy purchased it at an estate sale when the previous owner passed away. The new owner parked in the desert on his friend's property and it's been there for over 10 years. At first he couldn't find it when we drove down there. We had to back track into town far enough get cell phone reception so he could then call the property owner and find out how to get there. The car was sitting in front of the trailer seen in the first photo. I'm amazed the windows weren't all shot out. Someone showed amazing restraint or there were no kids within 5 miles of the place. It had a few critters living inside but they all bailed out on the long drive home.TonyL wrote:ugh. It was a total loss. All rust and no car. No saving that one.
I'll salvage a few parts for my other V8s but I don't think I'll bother saving the chassis (no place to put it and too expensive to offer it to anyone back east needing a low-rust Corsa). I want to keep some of the suspension parts and they don't roll so good after that. It did come with a complete set of Z-28 rims and some of the Kelmark goodies. The seller says he has another 4-speed and a transaxle for me a soon as he can find them. He wants the bare 396 block for some reason but it's in sad shape. It has several nests inside the water jackets full of old seed pods and such.

Re: Guess what I found?
I know many people back east might want it but the cost of shipping always kills the deal. It also would only come with a Bill of Sale since the PO never applied for one. It has to be dealt with quickly since in Mesa AZ you cannot park a car in your driveway without current registration, plates and insurance. That means I can only have it inside my garage and that is very inconvenient.4carbcorvair wrote:Would LOVE to have that.
I figured it is very unlikely that anyone will pay to ship this hulk across the country so I started stripping it yesterday to expedite getting my garage space back. I could really use both the front and rear suspension components for various needs on my other Vairs so it won't even be a rolling shell in a few more days.
BTW, I found the right rear corner has some collision damage and the front end has a lot of bondo skim coats from a hit to the front.
