My present project

Post by Corventure Dave »

Well I have started with this. 62 Rampside. 110 65 FC engine. Powerglide.

I'm doing a re-restoration. Mostly cosmetic. It is Dad's Rampy. He is 90 now and does not drive.... much. So now it's in my cave. The drivetrain we had worked over.. over the years. There is some things I want to do to that, but for now it is exterior, interior trin and stuff.

Block sand, prep, repeat... again and again and again!!! :sad5:

ِDave ! you seem to pay a lot of attention to detail (which is fantastic)....the truck looks great too....but wouldn't you recommend the use of an appropriate mask while sanding and/or around radioactive and wmd stuff like paint remover?

Is paint remover radioactive??????? WMD? , now you notified the Home land Security of his plan to wipe out the entire paint job on the ramp side. Way to go

Simple answer.... ever see an actor wearing a mask when posing for a photo... except for Darth Vador?

It's stop working. Set up the camera on a timer. Pose for the shot. Put camera away. Get back to work!
Does this shot make you feel better? Monster of the Man-Cave!

Har Har Har.
And yes... I was bald before I started the project!

I got the bed repair, dent pulling and smoothing finished!!!!!!!!
Man, this was a long project! I estimate over 50 hrs working on the bed alone, from Tailgate to Cab.
Next is the working side of the Ramp, but I have it already stripped to bare metal. Then the roof and back of the cab around the window and I'll be ready to think about throwing some paint on this Rampy!

Project continues.....

Got er out in the sun and even a drive around the neighborhood... no lights, no licence, no glass :shhh: :neener: ... buttt the Rampy runs terrific! When I finally get the paint slathered on, I have lots of cool shiny stuff to put on!

Starting the body work on the upper cab and roof next.

I just got these in from Ssnake Oyl. They are completly restored correctly for the 62 Rampy.
Now if I can get the time to finish the body work and slap on some paint.... I can start assembly. Inside and out!

Continuing the project. I was able to commit a few hours to the windshield area this past weekend.
I like the sponge blocks with different grits adhered to them. These get into un-even areas and especilly the FC rain gutters next to the windshield.
I was able to sand down to metal and smooth the areas out before applyng the primer-sealer paint.
Fortunately this Rampside has had a life in So. Calif. and has vary little rust.
The project continues as I have the rear of the cab and roof left to prep for painting. It's too bad I have to waste so much time earning a living, eating and sleeping..... or I would have this project done already!!! :dontknow:

Incidently, Rick Norris, Sr. just threw his hat in the ring for a new category... The Corvair Forum Male Model Corvair Owner of the Month! (From his Facebook page). Looks like you would have some serious competition. Now if we can get a Dave Motohead entry we have the potential for really spicing up the annual calendar...

The hood of that FC looks butter! Nice primer/surfacing/sanding.
