Put a pair of 4" speakers on a plate and install them in the dash where the stock speaker was. I like to also install a crossover on them to block the bass. The 4" speakers sound much better when they don't have to reproduce bass. You should get plenty of bass from the 6x9's in the back.

Thanks Dave, i was thinking about the 4" thing that Clark's offers. I had a chance to really see what the 6x9's could do this weekend. Although my particular speakers are pretty cheap, they did produce some decent sound, clear and fairly wide dynamic range. Still squished in the middle tho, but i was gonna add a portable sub box anyway. Additional coverage from the small ones, in the stock spor will help as well. The DIN plate came out good, but a little more tweaking and a final design will do better...

Been driving and enjoying the 500, moredoor alot lately. Tunes are sounding good, and plan on installing Clark's "better sounding", dual front dash speakers soon. Should fill in the front seat area nicely.

Meanwhile, i developed a vacuum leak, after i installed intake valve seals. Anyone else experience this? Seems i have a valve guide job in my future. So...i tore down the top end, after taking carbs off. I did this to clean, inspect, look for noisy moving parts, as well as track down an oil seepage. It seemed to me that it was coming from the top cover, and i was correct. So i put star washers under all the engine top cover bokts, and re-torqued.

Carbs to be done either today or tomorrow. WML.

stay tuned....

Been loving this thread. Thank you for posting. I just was rereading it and noticed you have original plates - how cool is that? I have the “classic” plates on my cars but love that your Corvair has original ones.

Thank You...My other Corvair, another 65 project Monza, has original CA plates also. I have been blessed with them both. I like the OG's too. They are period correct.

Can you post details of the DIN plate fabrication when the final design is complete?

Okay, Brad. I will have to go through my prototypes, since the one in pics, is the one in car now, and im pretty happy with it. Although, it does not sit perpendicular to the ground, as i wanted. I did, however, just fold down the stock radio tabs, so ot could go back stock in future. Also, had to trim a small sliver from top of stock hole, to fit DIN box, but that would be covered by stock plate as well.

Ill show pics soon.

Well...this is a tedious job!!! The teflon bushing upgrade kit, from Clark's, needs a reamer. You can only do so much with the drill bit, and the teflon tube is so very crushable.

Finally got both sides, of one carb, in. And it looks good!!

Other carb has springs and o-rings, that i didnt see earlier...and thats the one that was vacuum leaking the most. LOL. Hope the left side carb comes out as good or better. Im sure it will take me less time, now that im a pro. (yeah right) :dontknow:

Instructions are kinda hard to follow...

stay tuned...

Love the upholstery! For a car with too many doors it's looking sweet! I think the wire wheel covers look great on her too. :tu:

If you are looking for a dill featured stock looking radio, take a look at custom autosound's USA 740. It is a great radio. They also offer a plate with 4"speakers for late models.
Your radio faceplate you made looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product. Keep up the good work and share a picture or two with us.

Well...finally figured out what was wrong, and got my venturi clusters to stop leaking, and gas to stop puking out of the carb vent holes. Yea...we have prolly all done it, but hopefully ill not let it happen again. I am printing this picture, and stuffing it into the rebuild section, of the Bob Helt Carb book. = / Driving nicely, and carbs performing better now.

stay tuned...

Hey guys, been driving this one daily, since someone pulled out in front of me, and totalled my commuter. Love driving the Corvair tho. My 65 Monza sports sedan, project, came with 2" cut, stock coils, so I have been wanting to see what driving a more "raked" car looked like. Well...my bro came over today, and helped me swap them out. Looks great, hood is WAAY down there, while driving. Will see how she handles commuting tomorrow morning. 👍😎👍 TOTALLY STOKED!!!
...stay tuned.

Well....as some (or most) here were prolly figuring to themselves, the air cleaners used were a bit more than a little restrictive. Went back to stock this A.M., and mopped up the oil mess. 😐😐

LOL Back to the drawing board and message board.
