What have I been up to? I've taken a hiatus from my car actually since i sucked a valve last summer. That cylender head is *still* sitting in the back of my wife's car. waiting for me to send it off.... which im about to.

In the mean time, since my car is dead, I gave my wheels to my brother for his project "Provair." (the real first "pro-touring" corvair project. it's taken him like 15 years. Really.)

And this is the amazing result.


But where's that leave my car? Sorely lacking some wheels and tires, that's where.
So, I ran into a guy with a really nice BMW and he hated the wheels on it. Racinghart m5s
They look like this.


They're 18x10s in the rear. and 18x9s in the front. Will they fit?

Details of how i pulled this off are to follow. Little bit of daring fab work, sure. but you *can* get massive rollers under a 'vair if you are really determined to do so.

Snapped a few more shots of my brothers car when i was over there today. It's headed to the upholstery shop tomorrow. It's getting the carpet replaced with some closed loop stuff similar to mine, and getting its door panels and stuff done.

Some of us are still following this thread wondering when you will post real details and not just "teaser" pics.

I don't see how in the world you would have any reasonable turning radius when that rubber goes up under the front fenders but I would love to see how you did it. Care to share yet?

Soon as i find my camera. I just moved last weekend. But the good news is I moved to where my car has been sitting.

Ok. Found my stuff. Here goes

I bought this kit, cost 18 bucks at the local Kragen auto parts. For the poly bushings and the sleeve that fits over the bolt provided. That sleeve needs to be cut into two 1" sleeves that will act as spacers.


Next I had to drill a hole. Centered on where the offending rod stuck through my trailing arm and right into where my big ass tire was going to end up.
So a little measuring and some white hot metal into my eye (Wear safety goggles kids!) I had this neato hole. Note the proximity of the e-brake clip hole to the new hole i made. Im going to hog out the hole in the bracket and move it over onto my new bolt for the heim joint mod.


I purchased a few hiem joints from the local hard core part store (Hust Brothers in Marysville) for the not too bad price of 13 bucks each. They're 3/8 inch by 3/8 inch with 24 thread pitch. (it was all they had.)
After some cutting on the sleeves I had two one inch spacers and a half inch thick heim joint. Perfect for the gap in the arm. All that was left was to put it together.

Voila! That's it. Cut down the rod or do what I did, go and buy some steel and make your own. Use your new bushings on the other end of the rod, and you've got the stiffest struts anywhere. and no more evil protrusion aimed right at your tire. Problem solved.
