Okay I think I have earned my Handle "corvair.crazy"

Post by Corvair.crazy »

Somebody read my posting about how I would like a rampy someday. They contacted me, I drove 220 miles one way to look at it, and the next thing you know I own a rampy!
It is a second owner, the title they gave me was in the orginal envelope which had a 1968 post mark. So it is safe to say I am the third owner of this thing.
There is only one dent in it, my son actually put it on it. (that is a whole different story). The ramp door is perfect, the engine is completely unmolested. I think the seat is orginal, there is no rust (except the battery tray of course), I am pretty excited.

Here is a couple pictures of when I just got it home. I cleaned it up tonight so I may post more pictures.

BTW, it came with a extra grill, two engine blocks, and five sets of heads.

Thanks everyone, I am pretty excited. I got the interior cleaned up last night. Took the distributor out, put fresh oil in and primed the engine with oil. Hit the starter and. .......nothing. It tries to turn but then spins. Any ideas? I hope it is a bad bendix spring or something. I am suspicion though because the starter looks new.
This thing is super cool. I have been looking at pictures online, and there are some nice rampy's out there.

Can you turn the engine over with a wrench fully?

Yes I spun it over several times lining up the timing marks, in fact I gave myself a blister on my finger from pulling on the belt.

It might be tough to do, but have someone rotate the engine over and with the starter removed, look for "out of round" IE the flywheel's rivets are loose allowing the whole shebang to rotate off-center. you would see this as the flywheel moving "up and down" inside the opening where the starter sits while it is turning. This would alternately over-and-under engage the starter gear teeth. Something to look into...
