You are amazing brother, hats off to you, my rust bucket has stood still now for nearly two years. Every time I read your thread you inspire me to revisit the car. By the way how did the eye op go? Had my cataracts removed some 12yrs ago, could not believe the difference it made to my life as a whole, no more sun glasses and headaches either. The sunglasses were the worst made me feel like I was gangster. i personally think a lot of people look up to you, you are something else, you take care now

I feel guilty that my 66 was pretty much the real deal. Yes I found some filler about 1/8 thick so far. But now I'm considering looking real close.

Un-freaking-believable. The thing I don't understand is how someone could put that much work into making such a piece of crap look that good. How could it possibly been easier than just getting an honest car to start with?

I admire your tenacity. This is indeed the perfect storm. Lesser men would not be able to sail through this as you have.

I took a short break from the vair to sort out my baby Benz. Ive manage to straighten out and prime some of the repaired areas, so, although progress is slow, its still progress

And correct...baby steps, are still steps. And look with pride at what you have already done.
Not what is left to do.
I have 2 1/2 years + in this one. Just to get to this point. And mine had no serious rust issues!

The thing I keep thinking is that they put at least as much work into making a fudge pie out of the car as they would have repairing it properly. I had a former client rebuild the motor on my '65 Corsa coupe. He had the car for over a year and when I got it back, the entire car had been painted. Apparently it was damaged while he had it and rather than letting me decide what I wanted to do, he had his brother-in-law paint the car. He bought expensive paint, but there were runs, sags, orange peel, overspray, grinder marks on the trim...and the previous paint job had been a trim-off, back to bare metal, wet-sanded and wheeled finish. My insurance company paid to repaint the car, which meant it was gone for another year and as soon as I got it back, my "rebuilt" motor dropped a valve.

My point is that people can spend a lot of time and money doing things wrong out of lack of experience or ignorance. Not saying there wasn't some good ol' USDA-certified tenderloin fraud baked into this one, but sometimes it's just plain stupidity.

At least you don't have anything to hide about what you're doing to the car.

progress is slow, straightening out the panels after my attempts at welding has been a long job....with more bondo than I would ideally want, but at least there is metal behind it
