What a sharp wagon, nice work! I agree with wagon master, the stance is spot on

Thank you 64von & Beers
Therewill be a little bit more weight added to the body (windows and some other parts) but I think the stance will stay almost the same.

ENGINE STARTING TIME
Last saturday we started up the engine. I got help from 2 friends to fire it up.
We set up everything and did a check before we tried out.
We solve all kind of little problems, from electric - small fuel leak, oil leak, broken bold and many other small problems but in the end a running engine! HERE ARE SOME MOVIES!

CLICK HERE FOR MY RUNNING ENGINE
Enjoy the movies! I can continue working on it, next step (beside cleaning up my workshop) get the steering done, dashboard in place with the powerglide connection. Next goal is drive it in and out of the workshop

It looks too clean to run. I'd be afraid that some dirt may invade that pristine engine compartment.

Thank you bbodie52, but eventually it is made for driving, and it looks clean, but it is so dusty
When the Lakewood is finished it will get a big clean up, wash and polish for the total finish. But that is the last step.

Re: Corvair Lakewood 61 - NL
I have been pretty busy with some house upgrades, but I got some things in progress, or checked out to work on.
Installed a new electric fuel pump, the old one was stil leaking unfortunately.
Steering wheel and column are out of the Lakewood again to finish the steering wheel and rebuild / finish the column, later more on that.
Installed the polish machine and did some test:
It is getting there, need to fine tune it a bit more, sanding it down with 500 - 800 - 1000 and after that polish it with the machine in 2 steps.
Installing the front light brackets, electric wires,
And the lights! I was just wondering what it looks like with the emblem on it, just for the picture.
That is it for now!

Re: Corvair Lakewood 61 - NL
Some updates,
My friend Hugo is working on the shiney parts Straighten it out (no more dents), make it into the right shape again, sanding it down in different stages and polish it.
Awesome job but not finished yet.
And i'm working on the rear end of the Lakewood. Ffinishing up the wires, gommets and rebuilding / cleaning the last parts to put it all back together.
Step by step, part by part putting it together
Thank you!

Re: Corvair Lakewood 61 - NL
It's been a while since i have posted here, but the last 2 months didn't do that much on the Lakewood. We were hit by the virus and that took about a month to go away and we could move again. From there I had no energy or needs to work on it. I was glad i could "act normal during the day" and after dinner my energy was gone.
It goes way better now a days, and we have some time to work on some things:
We have been working on finetuning the engine, but the engine doesn't sounds good. It sounds rough and it makes some kind of rattle / boinck sound unfortuantely. Tuesday we are going to check what could be the problem.
we are going to check:
- Oil for metal and condition
- Pushrods, if they are bend
- Lifters position and "tightness"
Let the engine run longer with the newly fresh oil because maybe the lifters need more time to fill up with oil.
Fingers crossed it isn't any mayor "inside the engine" thing
Beside that we worked ont he steering wheel. I took of the most of the paint, we opened up the cracks and filled it up with 2K epoxi material. When it is dry we shape it in the correct way of the steering wheel.
We took the dashboard apart, time to clean it all2 out and refresh en rebuild it together
So we're back working on it, and hopefully there is no mayor damage at the engine / we can fix it or fine tune it!
Stay tuned, thank you!

Re: Corvair Lakewood 61 - NL
YES we found the problem of the engine noise!
WE had a list of different things what could be the problem. We started and took down the list.
Oil is ok, no parts / metal parts in there. Nice and clear!
Next step the push rods, and one is bend. Click here for the bend pushrod
Next step get a set of new pushrods and fix the problem and fire the engine up again!!
See you on the next update!

Re: Corvair Lakewood 61 - NL
Yes one package was delivered, new pushrods.
Out with the old in with the new, next is to adjust it the correct way this time (I know where it went wrong, we adjust it the way the factory / shop manual discribe but we forgot to set the engine in the right position). I also need to take the hot air covers off to repaint them, we cleaned the oil with some "agressive brake cleaner". I also bought better paint and these parts were one of the first parts I have painted a lot of years ago. More work to do, but i will get there.
Also some dashboard parts are drying

Finally the workshop has been cleaned up. Some small items left, but I finish it this weekend.
Time to get working on the Lakewood again!! (Y) and finishing some projects on the car. I got all the parts to finish and fine tune the engine. Hopefully this time it will work. Dashboard need, half of it is done, other half clean, paint and reassembled.

Re: Corvair Lakewood 61 - NL
Yes we fixed the engine problem.
New pushords installed and adjust the rocker arms.
Double checked all of it, and it fired up straight!
Click here for the running engine
Next step is fine tuning the carbs and balance them, there is a different in left and right.
We are getting there, step by step!
