63 Spyder electric fuel pump installation
63 Spyder electric fuel pump installation
Anyone have pics of your electronic fuel pump install? Where mounted? Did you have to cut the original hard line? Tips tricks? How do you post pics on here?
Re: 63 Spyder electric fuel pump installation
Picture would only show my stock lookin gas tank. Go with the Ted Brown in-tank fuel pump. For a Spyder, you may need a pressure regulator as the Carter carbs run a lower pressure

Start looking down the DIY - Explanations and Demonstrations section. You will find several discussions on electric fuel pumps
I have 2 discussion on the subject in that section, which can be a starting point. They are:

Re: 63 Spyder electric fuel pump installation
cnicol posts here and he sells "kit" that a some have said goes in easy and works well. I have not used it, but many have without complaints.
I recall the 63 Spyder was the first year for a return fuel line (off the engine compartment fuel filter) back to the gas tank. The stock pump provided adequate flow. I am not sure about the electric pump cnicol uses. You can PM him with questions.
The Corvair turbo guru Steve Goodman at Rear Engine Specialists in Colorado has recommended a "quality" fuel pressure regulator to deliver 2-3 PSI to the Carter turbo carburetor. Our club learned that was excellent advice and solved issues on turbo cars in our club.

Re: 63 Spyder electric fuel pump installation
As others have mentioned, I designed and manufacture the only complete, engineered Corvair fuel pump kit. It is very popular; in fact I have trouble keeping up with orders
If you wish to put your own system together (Many Corvair owners are tinkerers) that's great. And oh by the way, what's offered by other Corvair vendors are the basics needed for a DIY installation but the installer still has to work out quite a bit.
If you want a complete, engineered "Plug-n-Play" solution with fully illustrated instructions, this is your kit. As a bonus, the kit installs entirely "upfront" with no need to run wires to the back or any need to add engine switches, wiring, or oil plumbing changes
My kit provides a hidden, protected, silent pump with a factory-made Plug-n-Play harness. I also offer my kit, harness, snd instructions paired.with Ted Brown's in-tank pump. No additional parts are needed and no pressure regulator is needed for any of my kits.
