Well I've decided to leave them out as I don't think it came with belts out of the factory. I think they were added later.
I can always put them in later if I'd like.

Also got most of the floors done with Kilmat. I left a few spots near the passenger front & driver's side. I have to get the accelerator pedal bracket in before I Kilmat the rest.

I think this should help for now.

I still plan to do the roof, under the transmission access panel, under the engine panel & a bit inside the doors when I take the windows out.

Well the works coming along!!

Thanks again for the help so far!!

Everything you see took one box of 80mil 36sq ft. I am going to order another box to have more for when I do the doors & a few other places.

Alright, did some shopping. Received all my carpet from Clark's. Although I seem bamboozled how to get it to fit. I'm going to attach a picture of how I think it should fit, please let me know if this is the proper way. I'm guessing I have to cut holes for shifter, high beam switch & hole for speedo cable.

All my cardboard pieces have arrived but I'm going to hold off and installing them until my interior is done, cleaning the headliner, etc. The carpet is just going to sit in the car and lay flat, if I have to do interior work I will pull it out.

How tough is a headliner to do on a station wagon? I did buy the 50 mil Kilmat & will be attaching it to the roof after I get a completely cleaned down to the bare metal. Let me tell you that old butyl is annoying to take off. Thank goodness for razor blades.

Now aside from how the carpet is put in, how about the access panel for the differential. I torn out the foam & will be putting Kilmat. The butyl I was going to remove, as some of it fell off, & replace it with a thin rubber gasket to stop rattling.

The engine cover panel I'm going to put Kilmat on the inside & the gasket/weatherstrip is intact so I will leave that.

The thing behind the rear seat that folds down when the rear seat is down, it has a huge tear in it. So my plan is to buy particleboard & cut the shape out, repaint, maybe do screws instead of rivets. Haven't decided.

I have to move the horn from the frunk to under the car, buy the new choke cable from clarks (can I use my original knob or I'm a stuck with the one on the new cable?), some rubber grommets fro various areas, patch up my rockers & paint (bondo, to much of the original left to cut out), install heater hoses (rubber), reinstall my heater boxs & motor, put gas tank in & some rubber lines , plus the new gas lines, brakes, drums & hardware.

Long list of other things I have but just finding the time to do it all.

Anyway there's an update!

Keep up the fight Kyle,
It's going to be great when it's all wrapped up.
Keep in mind the carpet isn't moulded so fitment requires alot of time for fitment. The Carks carpets are very nice and will fit great. Just take your time. Double check your cuts before you make them.

Decided to treat my 64 with these new babies! 61 is getting the hand me downs. For now. Working on the carpet on my 64 too. The new carpet in the wagon spurred me to get my 64 new carpet too!

Kyle,
Hows the 64 feel with the new rubber? I'm sure you can feel the difference. I really like the wire caps. I have a NOS set as well.
Let's see some pics when you get the carpets installed. Is the 64 your DD? I always liked the wheel well and rocker trim on the 64. I'm considering installing the trim on my 61.

Oh man you can tell the difference! It has no more shaking. One of the wheels had old old old fix a flat in it which caused it to never balance properly. Now I can get it up to full speed without shaking.

Sure I'll snap a picture of it as soon as I'm home from work.

Yes it is my daily driver, when the wagon is done they both will be. I get my 64 sprayed with corrosion free from a local garage and I will be doing the same to the station wagon once it is roadworthy. During the winter months I wash the salt off once a week. The under spray is not affected by this unless directly spraying and scrubbing it off.

It's the 80/20 powder blue. Matches the car very well! Took a while lining up the bolt holes.

At least on my wagon I won't have to worry about seatbelt holes!

Here we have the 1964 Corvair powering through the tough Northeastern Ohio winter! Never once does it slip not does it fail to stop without issue!

We at Chevrolet recommend you go to your local Chevrolet dealer & ask about the Corvair's ruggedness in the snow!

*This is not an ad for the Chevrolet Corvair don't hunt me down GM.*

Anyway with the new tires, I feel that they do a great job in the snow & I really do appreciate how well this car drives in it. My Fiero didn't do so well without studded snow tires, with them though.... I could beat out trucks. Is it possible to get 13in studded tires for the Corvair? Or back then did they use chains? Or did they just drive with the normal tires?

I'm curious to see how much difference there is with the Lakewood in handling in the snow.

That's great Kyle,
When I was in high school I drove my 66 Monza all year long. This was in Fairbanks,AK. Lots of snow and very cold at times. Temps down to - 40 sometimes colder.
I used a KATS oil pan heater and placed a heater in the engine compartment at night. Started up every time.
It drove great in the snow even deep powder, just stay on it and plow right through. I used to laugh at guys on the side of the road with 4×4s locking in there hubs as I drove right on by.
The last year I was in Fairbanks it got so cold that the lacquer paint on the car just fell off in a big sheet. I thought someone vandalized my car and found the top coat laying in the snow. That was cold.
I always used all season tires and a couple sand bags in the boot for winter driving.

Gas tank is in! Now to finish up the fuel lines to the pump & carbs! See about getting it to idle today if I'm lucky. No exhaust logs though, should be here in a few days.

Now here's a question, the 3 metal pieces that have the rubber seals in the engine bay. I see the wagon seems to be special. So I fixed how badly bent they were. Now does the rubber still go on just like the cars? Also what attaches to each the bottom left & right side where there is two screw holes on the bottom of those metal pieces? I'm pointing to where the holes are. I'd take a picture of the pieces but they are soaking in degreaser. I'm guessing it is a small trim piece or maybe the rear grill?

As always thanks!

Well was testing a new metal polish I bought & wow!

Dura-coatimg Metal Polish

Now I will remind you that this station wagon sat since 1972 in a porch barn. These rocker panel covers we're just taking off and set to the side and not cleaned.

I rinsed them with water and a rough brush, then used some super clean and scrubbed it with a softer brush. It still had a dirty look to it. So I figured oh I'll try this metal polish and wow I'm impressed. It still has the scratches and dings on it but I'm impressed with the shine that it brought back. I was at first just going to leave the used look but I think I'm going to shine it up and leave the scratches and dings underneath for a shiny nice piece of bright work.

I think I bought this off of their website if anyone is interested I think it's just DuraCoating.com. I'm not 100% certain.

anyway I'm working on getting the carburetors mounted and the rest of the fuel lines to the car. Hopefully we'll get the thing running today.

As a side note I am not paid by them, I am just really impressed. I also use blue magic metal polish cream, but I think this stuff is much better. I guess it depends on the application.
