My Corvair Fiends...I Mean Friends...

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hi Everyone crazily Infected with Corvairs!

Just showing a little bit of the "road candy," that I'm sprinkling down on the numbing streets polluted with Lyft stickers, Teslas junk, and Asian lunch-boxes on wheels piloted by isolated I-Phone kids who don't want to drive, because it distracts them from their (very, very bad word here) phones!. The new, rear, Classic Torque Thrust wheels measuring 15" x 7" along with the 215/60/15 (25.10" height) tires, really make me happy! Combined with brakes that actually work correctly now. I'm like the new, "It Girl" except with an old, cool car, and big junk up front, and being old.

See ya!

Only Driving! Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hello Corvairs!

I'm reporting that we've only been driving my 65 Corsa project! Not pounding Northern California rains in the winter, nor near and over 100+ degree F summer temperatures for days have hindered this little old beast. Only the driver without AC...

My 1971 Dodge Sportsman van was 1st in line for a paint job and it is in the shop now. Next...

My son is very proud of this car and wants it :tu:

Corsa Driving Everyday!!

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Greetings Corvairs!!

I want to share that my 17 year old son has been driving my Corvair everyday for months on end! Proving to be a remarkably reliable heap too. He drives it to high school and to his part-time job at Chic-fil-A (pretty tasty chicken parts) and to the Bodega Coast and on dates with brave girls. I kid you not there were not one but two lipstick kiss impressions on a side window.
No oil leaks! Little oil usage! A 100mph or two run on Bodega Hwy and 90mph on 101Hwy.
No further meaningful car work has taken place though. On the weekends I try to get a hand at driving it.

Hey check my son getting into a modified Rally-Cross car (Nor Cal Rally Cross group). He got to be passenger for 5 runs in an ex Audi road-race modified purchased from Florida and adapted. He loved it. We were just stopping by to see what these guys were all about at an event in Santa Rosa...strange group of greasy hipsters (hippies are actually afraid of car work and actually screw it up :) They really dug my car.

See you sprinkling a little candy on the roads!

Daughter Drives Corvair 4-Speed too!

Post by GasDaddy140 »

My 21 year old daughter was tiring of all the fun my 17 year old son is having driving the 65 Corsa and asked me to teach her...again. The first couple of times, a few months ago didn't work out so well. A lot of car shaking, engine revving, and gear grinding shook her up too. This time we went back to the old HP complex in Rohnert Park and she got it done. No stalling! Got up to 3rd gear. Driving! Next time it's the public roads. Another kid who actually knows what 3 peddles are for :)

My clutch has held up (people like to warn you that they'll burn it up trying).

Just drive it! Analog!

Corsa Rear Grill! Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Post by GasDaddy140 »

My son and I finally got back to working on some new things for our 1965 Corvair Corsa that he's lucky enough to be cutting his driving teeth on. We fitted the rear valance and grills which are in pretty decent shape and get's them off the garage wall. We also fixed the new Corvair speedometer cable which broke by buying a cable for a 1969 Chevy Nova for $23.00. It was about 6 inches too long but we fished it up through the driver hub wheel drive to the speedometer. Then we sectioned a 6" piece of the Nova cable jacket and fitted it to the standard Corvair jacket. Works great!
Anyway - car is being driven daily and running strong.

Anca Driving 4 Sppeed Corsa! Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hey Corvairs!

My 21 year old daughter Anca just couldn't stand seeing her younger brother driving the old 65 Corsa all over hell. So, she's been encouraging me and I've been taking her out Corsa 4 speeding! Of course down-shifting from 3rd to 1st at a touch over 30mph isn't the greatest thing in the world and neither is missing 3rd gear engagement and freewheeling around a corner like a kid's cheap metal wagon, but she's evolving. OK Boomer...I know what 3 pedals are for. Not many Millennials can say that!

My Third Speedometer Cable :)

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Today on my 63rd Birthday, my 18 year old son got another $70 Corvair speed-O cable on our baby! Man...
Seems to work!
Stay safe and clean your hands a lot!
Thank god I have a garage to “shelter” in and broken stuff.

Holley GPS Speed-O Coming! -

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hi Everyone! I hope you're doing well around your houses and garages and carports. What strange times.

Anyway, after three used Corvair speedometers acting weird (one stuck at 30mph and then jumped to 110mph crossing over railroad tracks). The 3rd and last attempt currently in the car is usually 20mph off. I'm done. I've spent way too much time and money on used dashes for speedometers and cables :td: I've ordered a Holley products classic faced with needle, GPS speedometer. Odometer, trips, 0 to 60, 1/4 mile, direction in the world, clock and altitude.! It was about $265.00. It is 3/38" and I'll get it in the dash somehow. It has a satellite receiver with 15' of cable. The Autometer, and Holley GPS speed-O units seem like the best according to specifications and reviews. I'm a modern man.

Looking forward to receiving it this week and I'll share pictures of me and my son putting it in and driving around! No more of this taking the dash panel off-and-on for a while.

Door #13 is the Final Exit, use caution :)

GPS Speed-O Steps -

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hi Corvairs!

I hope that you're all doing as well as one could expect during these strange days!

I'm glad that I had another eBay dash panel after-all chasing used speedometers :) Enlarging the hole for the new multi function satellite receiving GPS Holley speed-O wasn't so easy. Realize that it's not so easy to run to the auto parts or hardware stores like it used to be... Anyway, the fit is tight and now I have something to work with when I remove the dash for the 10th time or so. It has a hot wire off the ignition and a straight connect to the battery hot wire which will only draw .25ma and remember where the satellites are in the sky. Hopefully this weekend we'll get after it some more. I'm fortunately an "essential" worker (first time in my life!) and have been working my ass off and wearing a lot of protective gear lately.

The choices were either 160 or 200mph. If only.

All my gauge faces will be white now, even the stock gas, temperature, and alternator fail ones. Because I'm going to carefully paint it!

See you!
