Drop-in electric window conversion kits

Post by davidalva11 »

Does anyone know if there are electric window conversion kits made for Corvairs. The kind that bolts right in. I've seen them chevelles, novas but not specifically for Corvairs.
I have a 63 convertible.

David,

I have not heard of any drop in solutions but I would not doubt that one of the units out there for the nova or camaro might work with slight modification. Years ago when I worked at a friend of my dads salvage yard I learned that there were many parts that interchanged. In fact they had a huge book that you would cross reference those part interchanges. Auto manufactures did not want to have to retool everything for all their different models.
I am not at that juncture yet in my customizing but I will get there.

The question of installing power windows in a late model Corvair was addressed some years ago by Norm Witte. I don't know if he was successful.

Hello, I appreciate the starting point. I will update all if they indeed fit with minor modifications.

These are not what you are looking for, but, I have used universal kits from SPAL in the past (circa 2000). They are set up to motorize the existing window crank. They include covers that stick out through the door panel that hide the crank end. These will work with careful planning and minimal modification. https://webstore.spalusa.com/en-us/prod ... w-kit.aspx

I got power windows installed on my 65 corsa and they work flawlessly. I think they were originally for a camaro and the shop did have to modify them. Also, they were really expensive , Italian brand. Don't buy the cheap Chinese shit it will not last.
