Body tag

Post by Skrain »

I know my car was originally Palomar Red, with a Black interior, but I'm not too sure how to decode the rest of the info on the body tag.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Can you post a picture of your front belts? With so much modification, could your car origianlly have been ordered Seat belt delete and a PO added the fronts?

Your car doesn't happen to be a heater delete does it?

In group 5 for 1964, you have the following RPO codes..
RPO A37 Custom Deluxe belts no retractors (used before 2/1/64)
RPO A39 Custom Deluxe with retractors (used before 2/1/64)
RPO A49 Custom Deluxe with retractors (after 2/1/64)
RPO A62 Seat Belt Delete

O.K. I do know that the entire interior was replaced by the guy who restored the car, so I don't know if it had front belts when it was new. It does have a heater, just not the Gasoline heater.

If the body was ordered with RPO A62 Seat Belt Delete, I wonder if it would have the factory install points? How are your seat belts bolted in? Is there factory threaded holes in the floor or are your belts installed through the floor with fender washers or other bracing?

Something I JUST realized, another odd coincidence. Something that has been staring me in the face for months, and I never noticed...
I know from the body tag that the car was "born" during the 3rd week of October, 1963.
Well, I was born during the 3rd week of October in 1953, so there is a 1 in 7 chance that we share the same birthday, it's just that I'm10 years older then the Spyder!
As far as I'm concerned, I'm just gonna say that we DO! ::-):
The other coincidence I noted was that the original Warranty booklet with the car shows it was delivered on Dec. 12, 1963 to it's first owner in the Philadelphia area.
I put my Kentucky Historic Vehicle tag on the car on Dec. 12, 2013, 50 years to the DAY after it was delivered!
Cool, huh??

Skrain, can you post a photo of your seat belt mounts? Just need an idea of how your's look at the floor so I can see where where to drill. Anyone else have aftermarket seat belts I would like to see how you mounted them also.

Thanks in advance, Jeff

Here you go. They aren't the best. The belt mounting bolts seem to go into holes through the carpet and maybe into threaded nuts in the floor pan. There is nothing coming through to the outside of the floor, like a bolt or whatever, so I am guessing the belt mounting points are built into the floorpans/sides.

Also, look here.http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/catalog ... w_page=169

Thank you sir, maybe the Z in your body tag code is the seat belt code or someone welded some nuts in at one time for them, probably factory mounting points though. I had seat belts in my new 62 coupe but that was 52 years ago & I have no idea where they bolted on at.
I picked up some belts at AutoZone today.
