Looking for help decoding tag

Post by PatrickK »

Looking for a little help decoding a tag. Car belonged to my father in law who passed this last summer. I am trying to educate myself about the Corvair to see what information I can get to either help sell it, or figure out a fair price, because I might be interested in it myself.

That's your body tag. It gives you information about the body style, build date, original paint scheme, and certain body options.
The code stamped on the first row is the body production date: 05 = May and E = fifth week of the month.
Style 62-0967 indicates 1962 model year, 09 = 900 Model (Monza), 67 = convertible.
Body WR 7658 indicates assembly plant = Willow Run, 7658 is the production number for the body that year.
Trim 781 = red vinyl interior
Paint 936 = Ermine White exterior, -5 = red interior paint
Accessories AHJL-2, A = direct air heater, H = padded dash, J = tinted windshield, L-2 black convertible top

I'm restoring a 1963 Monza Spyder.
I cut my teeth on the fender of a black 1960 Corvair 500 sedan,
and learned to work on 'Vairs by watching and helping my dad
keep three of 'em on the road. This one's for you, Dad.
