66 Convertible Rescue

Post by rv6aaviator »

Gents,

Cincinnati Corvair Club rescued a 66 Convertible this weekend. A new member recently inherited the car. Some history on the car is that it is a one owner, 45K miles, 110 hp /auto, black interior & top. Car has not been on the road since 1979. One of the best rust free cars I've seen. Interior, top, engine compartment and under carriage are all in fantastic shape. Body panels are rougher than two nights in jail. Every body panel except the truck lid are covered in dents, dings and scrapes. We pulled it out into the sunshine for the first time since 1979. Car will be saved, gone through and restored as required.

Can I get some help decoding the body tag?

Thanks.

Here is a breakdown of the information on the body tag you provided...

ACC = Accessory line
When decoding ACC line on the Fisher body tags, be aware that body tags do not include any options that did not require any body modification be done by Fisher. Fisher was only concerned with items that required modifications during the assembly of the body. A good example is that you won’t find Telescopic column listed on the body tag. Although this is a major option, it did not require any special consideration during body assembly.

W2M
The Letters are listed in groups. Letters following a number are in that group.
1st Group
W = RPO A02 Glass, Tinted Windshield only

2nd Group
M = RPO M35 Powerglide Automatic

Here is a sample of the VIN tag on your car, and an explanation of the tag number structure. The last six digits would be your car's unique serial number...

Brad,
Would the 11 C on the tag mean it was built in November of 1965????

Since each model year began its release around September of the previous calendar year, the 1966 model would have hit the showrooms in September 1965. So 11C on a 1966 Corvair production run would have to have been produced in the third week of November, 1965.

Progress Update
1. New Clark's Ultimate fuel tank installed
2. New dual master cylinder going in
3. New complete brake line install
4. New complete brake shoes and hardware
5. Carbs removed for rebuild and engine clean up

Car is really rust free on the undercarriage. Very nice not having to cut off rusty bolts. Compression test performed and everything is 170+. Going to finish brake work up, rebuild carbs, clean up engine compartment, reseal the engine and get it running.
