Production numbers / VIN

Post by Bard Beach »

Have a question about my vehicle number.
My VIN has the vehicle number at 129,919 but it looks like there were only 129,544 Monza Coupes produced in 1963.
Is the vehicle number randomly selected from the entire production of all models and types from 1963? Or is this number from only similar 900 series coupes?

You need to minus a 100,000 to the number. so it would be 29,544. I guess they did that to keep the number a six digit number and not to start with a zero.

1963 Corvair Monza 900 coupe from the Willow Run, MI plant. Vehicle Production No: 129919

I believe the 129919 number refers to the TOTAL PRODUCTION of 1963 Corvairs at the Willow Run plant (not just Monza coupes). There were 117,917 1963 Corvair 2-door Monza coupes produced at all plants.

FYI, these charts are applicable for decoding the VIN numbers on late-model Corvairs and FC (Forward Control) Corvair vans and trucks…
