Assistance Needed in Understanding Body Tag

Post by Spike65 »

Based on the body tag on a Corvair I saw this is my understanding:
Built in November, 2nd week (11B)
Model year = 1965 (65-10767)
1 = Chevrolet
65 = 1965
07 = Corsa
67 = 2 door convertible
Produced at Willow Run (WRN)
Production sequence = 32,685 (W132685) from VIN tag
Interior trim = red (785)
Body color = white (C2)
2L3C4U-
4 speed tranny 2L RPO M20
Padded dash 3C RPO B70
Spare tire lock 4U RPO P19

What does 11C5 Body mean?
Is it a 110 HP engine or something else?
Did I miss anything else in reading the body tag info?

I was told that not all options are shown unless it affected the body build. So the standard AM radio would not be mentioned for example.
It also has the single speed wiper, which I believe was standard.

Thanks

Dave

Here is a breakdown of the information on the body tag you provided...

ACC = Accessory line
When decoding ACC line on the Fisher body tags, be aware that body tags do not include any options that did not require any body modification be done by Fisher. Fisher was only concerned with items that required modifications during the assembly of the body. A good example is that you won’t find Telescopic column listed on the body tag. Although this is a major option, it did not require any special consideration during body assembly.

GROUP 2
L = RPO M20 — 4 Speed Manual Transmission

GROUP 3

...My Name is Dave and I live in Central New Jersey. I have just purchased a 1965 Corsa turbo...
I pulled this from an earlier posting. If your Corsa was originally a turbo, it would have Accessory Code "O" in ACC Group 4 (O = RPO L87 — Turbo engine). If your Corvair has a turbocharged engine now, it was probably added by an owner after the original purchase. All other Corsas were fitted with a standard 140 hp 4x1 engine. (Turbo Corvairs have a special exhaust pipe cutout on the right in the body, below the bumper, which can be seen in the example below).

This guide will show you how to decode the VIN tag...

HI Brad

Thank you. Is there an indication of the original motor?

You may not have see the line I added above. There was no special ACC code for the standard 140 hp engine. The special turbo engine exhaust cutout did require a body change, which would explain the Body Tag code "4O".

:dontknow: Your body tag may have been removed at some point and then riveted back into place. It is possible that it is not even the original body tag. The rivets holding your body tag to your car (shown above) do not match the style of the original rivets used to secure body tags in Corvairs. Multiple examples of original body tag installations are shown below. The first body tag also includes the letter "O" in group four, as an example of a Corsa that was originally fitted with the turbocharged engine (in this case a 1966 Corsa coupe from Van Nuys).

Hi Brad-- I've attached my body tag and have a question. If I read my tag right my car was made in the 3rd week of June...right? I also interpret it to be production number 6747.

Why would mine be made in June and production sequence 6747-- and the one in this thread was made in November and production sequence 1105?

I am sure it something I am missing--- can you help?

1965 Corvair model year production began around September 1964 and ran through August (or early September) 1965. The 1966 Corvair was then introduced in September 1965.

The 1965 Corvair body with production sequence 1105 was made by Fisher Body in the second week of November 1964 in support of final production at the Willow Run, Michigan plant. It was the way GM Detroit markets things.
