'66 Corsa Turbo

Post by gnrand »

I am new to the Corvair world but I had a '65 in the early 70's and want to get another one (a '65 0r '66 Corsa). I found a '66 Turbo Corsa that needs restoration. I have the numbers off the tag that were sent to me but I am not sure how to read them or if they are totally correct but I thought I would throw it out to the experts. One thing I noticed from the pictures; the gauges are more like the Monza and then Corsa.

11B (this one I figured out) B

ST 55 10337 WRN 3647
Tr 721 D-D Paint
Thank you,
Jeff

You are looking at a 1966 Monza. The numbers that were sent to you were misread and contain a number of errors. 11B indicates it was made in November (11), second week (B). ST represents the style/year model. You showed this as "55", it's actually "66". The next numbers 10337, should be 10537, indicating a Monza coupe. WRN indicates in was made at the Willow Run plant. The TR (interior trim) is 721, a blue interior. D-D is the paint (PNT on the tag), which is a Mist Blue exterior. Because it has Monza gauges, what you have started as a Mist Blue '66 Monza with a blue interior. If it has any Corsa markings they were most likely added. Hope this helps.

11B (this one I figured out) B

ST 55 10337 WRN 3647
Tr 721 D-D Paint
11B
Body Build Date: 11 = November, B = Second Week
The first two digits are numbers 01 through 12, indicating the month of manufacture. The letter is A-E, indicating the week of the month. If the letter is an "B" it indicates the second week of the month.

55 = 1955 ???

Model 10337 Does not relate to a Corvair. For example...

10100 = Corvair 500, 10500 = Corvair Monza, 10700 = Corvair Corsa

10137 would be a Corvair 500 2-Door Sport Coupe
10537 would be a Corvair Monza 2-Door Sport Coupe
10737 would be a Corvair Corsa 2-Door Sport Coupe

I would suggest you provide a photo of the body tag or recheck the numbers.

Thank you. The pictures I received are not readable. Looks like someone is trying to clone a corsa. Well it saved me a big trip. The turbo motor got my attention and that is why I persuded it.

Jeff - I'll give it a try...

02B <-- built 2nd week in Feb
ST 65 10767 Los 508 <-- 1965 Corsa (107) Sport Coupe? (37?) built in LA #508 for year (Corsa)
Boo Y-2 Pal <-- not sure what this is - the line should be interior and ext color.
W-2L 30 <-- Tinted Windshield only (W), 4 Speed (2L), Padded Dash (3C)
4U <-- Spare tire lock (4U)

if it was a turbo it would have a 4O for the RPO L87 Turbo engine. (4OU would be both Turbo and lock)

True turbos have a difference in the body - a 'port' for the single exhaust in the right rear.

Sorry, not a turbo from the factory...

Below is a factory turbo body tag.

06B <-- 2nd week in June
65-10737 WRN 14162 <-- 1965 Corsa (107) Sport Coupe (37) Willow Run # 14162
713- D-D <-- interior and ext color
2L3C4PO <-- 4 Speed (2L), Padded Dash (3C), convenience group 2 sp wipers, washers, day/night inside mirror 4P,
L87 Turbo engine (4O)

hope it helps...

Thank you once again. I sent Jeff from Ca Corvairs a few pictures and he said that it was not a turbo car.

I wanted to share the transformation of this imatation turbo car. I think it is amazing. As Jeff pointed out it looks like they cut corners on the top and interior seating material to compensate for what must have been the high cost of of the restoration.
